Mississauga guitar god Rik Emmett was centre stage at Metalworks studio on Monday night, chatting about songwriting and his life in the music business at the second Backstage Pass event.
Emmett gained International fame as the lead singer, songwriter and guitarist for iconic Canadian rock band Triumph in the 1970s and ’80s. He’s been inducted to the Canadian Rock Hall of Fame.
Monday night’s show, which was streamed live online, saw Emmett sit down for a conversation with show host Wendy Irvine. Emmett also played several numbers, including numbers from his upcoming albums and the classic Triumph anthem, Magic Power.
Audience members took advantage of the opportunity to ask Emmett questions. When asked who had inspired his music, he cited Ritchie Blackmore and Deep Purple and jazz guitarist Pat Metheny.
Jonathan Sconza 16, said Emmett “opened up a lot of new thoughts for me to think about as a musician.”
Emmett currently teaches at Humber college.
The guitarist stayed behind after the show to chat with fans.
